This image is without the ambient occlusion, so the final images will have more contact shadows etc.

These first two are just beauty passes (without ambient occlusion). The rest of the images include the ambient occlusion.

More and More Color!

The lighting is obviously not finished, and there are a few tweaks in the textures that I need to complete. Overall I am happy with the happy, cheerful colors! I think they work pretty well together.

Colors!

So I abandoned my fur idea, I did a test render of the fur actually animated and it just didn't work...so for the kitten's skins I created a velvet shader that gives off a purple sheen. I think it works a lot better in the actual animation. As for the rest of my textures I'm going to get rid of all the busy textures (the rug and tiles) and revert back to my concept sketches and use more solid and saturated colors.

Fun with Fur!

I have been playing around with fur for my three little kittens and here's what I have been able to come up with so far. Obviously they aren't perfect just yet, for some reason I am getting some strange baldness around the seams of my UVs. There won't be fur on his pants and mittens. I also plan on having white accents on his fur much like my original concept sketches. Overall I think he is looking pretty cute so far!

More Finalized!

First 10 Seconds, more finalized...

So I have decided to take this ten seconds at a time, so hopefully I can be completely finished by Monday. After seeing this render, I have since made changes already, the mama's head does not move so suddenly and I added a subtle foot movement to the kittens when they perk up for the pie. Also the characters are smoothed out for these renders, looks a lot better in my opinion :)

Animation Draft - Still pretty rough, but getting there!

So I still have some issues I am dealing with in this animation, the ending still needs to be finalized. The kitten that still looks sad will be animated like the happy kitten. The ending is still blocked out, so I need to smooth that out. As for the beginning I need to fix the way the mama cat enters the scene to put the pie down, also I plan on emphasizing the similar movements the two kittens have. And overall there are a few little tweaks throughout the whole thing I need to correct, but I am getting there!

Animation (first 22 seconds) - extremely rough...

Obviously this is extremely low quality so it could be uploaded to the web. I still have two more shots to add on to the 22 seconds I have so far. I was concentrating on getting the key poses in, so I have yet to fix the curves. The only part I am unsure of at this point is when the kitten is climbing up the chair and the camera changes positions, I wasn't too sure if this confused the audience or not. I love the shot of the kitten climbing up so much that I would hate to change it, but I may have to so the audience can follow the story.

So from here the kitten will bring the whipped cream to the two other kittens, who are already by the pie (they may be carrying the pie together). The last shot will be a close up of the pie and you will see their little heads peaking out from the pie.

Some Renders from my Animation...so far!

Three Little Kittens - My Story

Obviously this Nurery Rhyme is too long to cram into a 30 second animation, so I decided to whittle it down. The animation will take place in a kitchen on the kitchen table. We will start with an establishing shot and we will see two kittens on the table, crying. We aren't sure why the characters are crying until the third character enters. The camera will shift to the edge of the table and we will see a kitten climbing up to the table top. Somehow he is going to be carrying a can of whip cream. Once the two kittens notice who the third kitten is and what he has they will stop crying and start dancing since they have found their whip cream. The whip cream is for the pie that until now we have not seen, and the animation will end with the kittens putting the whip cream on the pie and they begin to eat it. A piece of the pie will hit the screen ending the animation.

Characters and Style:
I am going to have three characters, the three little kittens. They will all be similar, but not exactly the same. They will be the same colors, but have some different patterns on their fur. For character design, I like the bubbly and simple shapes of Yoshi and Yoshi's island.
The characters will be cute and pathetic since they are sad in the beginning. I want to keep all the components in the scene very simple so I can focus on the animation and the interactions of the characters

Three Little Kittens

The Story:
Three little kittens,
They lost their mittens,
And they began to cry,
Oh mother dear,
We sadly fear,
That we have lost our mittens.
What! Lost your mittens,
You naughty kittens!
Then you shall have no pie.
Mee-ow, mee-ow, mee-ow.
No, you shall have no pie.
The three little kittens,
They found their mittens,
And they began to cry,
Oh, mother dear,
See here, see here,
We have found our mittens.
What! Found your mittens,
You silly kittens!
Then you shall have some pie.
Purr-r, purr-r, purr-r,
Oh, let us have some pie.
The three little kittens,
Put on their mittens,
And soon ate up the pie;
Oh, mother dear,
We greatly fear,
That we have soiled our mittens.
What! Soiled your mittens,
You naughty kittens!
Then began to sigh,
Mee-ow, mee-ow, mee-ow.
Then they began to sigh.
The three little kittens,
They washed their mittens,
And hung them to dry;
Oh mother dear,
Look here, look here,
We have washed our mittens,
What! Washed your mittens,
You're good little kittens.
But I smell a mouse close by!
Hush! Hush! Hush!
I smell a mouse near by.
